Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Warriors Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences growing in strength within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of characters who will separate from the central cast to begin their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

Per the DM, the warrior group is for players who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might appear unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the team understands precisely where to head next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading the secret base, striking the character, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.

Casimir then settled his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • The adventurer knows the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous place.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could enable the group enter areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and Wicander turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This leaves them few options but to head to the northern region in search of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to assemble the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Fans can expect finding out which characters will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
